If your into Ufology then you probably know all about the roswell ufo crash. It is the most well known ufo incident in history and is sure to be the lifeblood of ufology throughout history. The discussion of what really happened in roswell goes on and on keeping its history and mystery intact and keeping roswell in the heart of ufo studies.
It all started during July 7, 1947 when a mysterious object crash landed near the premises of Roswell Army air base. The first reports to the general public were of a crashed alien craft and many people thought the long awaited proof of extraterrestrials and ufo’s was finally found. The news spread quickly across the globe when the US Air Force announced that they had a flying saucer in their possession. Although soon after the original report the Air Force released a second news flash stating that it was actually nothing more than a weather balloon that had been recovered.
The public was not quick to except this new explanation from the military on what exactly was recovered. Things died down and the roswell incident seemingly would fade into history as a hardly known incident. Almost 30 years would pass before the roswell incident would find its way back into the light and has continued to grow as a hot topic ever since. Ufologists William Moore and Stanton R. Friedman came across some interesting notes from an interview of Jesse Marcel the Sr. Intelligence Officer from Roswell Air Force Base.
Roswell Background :
Rancher William W. “Mac” Brazel would find himself smack dab in the middle of ufo history forever during the first week of july 1947. He lived on a ranch located near corona new mexico named foster ranch in which he was the foreman. Brazel home for the night realized that he heard a loud noise that was maybe some kind of explosion. The next morning brazel making his usual rounds on the farm comes across a large open area filled with some kind of very odd debris. The area seemed like somekind of wreckage and contained pieces of shiny , metallic material that was quite odd and nothing like brazel had seen before.
Brazel decides to collect some of this material and bring it into town and report it to the local county sheriff’s office. When he reaches the sheriffs office he shows this debris to George Wilcox an officer on duty. The material was so obviously like nothing they had ever seen that wilcox decided it needed to be reported to higher officials. Wilcox then calls the Roswell Air Force base and talks to Major Jesse A. Marcel and explains the situation about the material they recovered and the crash at the ranch so Marcel agree’s to come to roswell to check the scene.
Marcel arrives on scene and has a chance to interview brazel on way to look over the crash site. Marcel is accompanied by army counter intelligence officer Sheridan Cavitt. The three men arrive at the crash site and are amazed to see the huge amount of area it covers , debris was said to cover an area about 3/4 of a mile long. Marcel examines some of the debris recovered and takes it home with him for further investigation. He then informs Air Force officials of what he has seen , which prompted Colonel Blanchard to order Colonel Walter Haut to inform the media that the Air Force was in fact in possession of a “crashed flying saucer / ufo “. Colonel Haut then claimed that the debris found was sent to the 8th Air Force under the command of General Ramey in Ft Worth Texas. While this is happening the famous newspaper headlines hit the wire and are released!
“RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell Region.”
But it would not take long for the headlines to be retracted by the US Air Force saying that a mistake was made and in fact it was a weather balloon that was recovered and not anykind of flying saucer.
It did not take long for rumors to start circulating that dead alien bodies were recovered at the crash site. The military quickly secured the crash site and removed every bit of debris from the vast area. The military became very tight lipped about the crash site as a whole and about any materials recovered there , sticking to the later released story that it was simply a weather balloon. This action caused many to wonder if it was simply a downed weather balloon then why the need for all the secrecy surrounding the event. Later front page photo’s were released and printed in news papers of the weather balloon wreckage and debris. This material would later be disputed by Marcel as being different from the debris he personally collected from the crash site.
Through the years the accounts and theories about what really crashed that day in roswell are conflicting but there is one thing clear, something important crashed that day. This was important enough for the witnesses and people involved to be threatened about revealing or talking about what they saw. There were many witnesses who claimed to see not only debris likely not of this world but also said to have seen alien bodies on site. The US Air Force remains to this day adamant that there was nothing to the crash but with so many witness accounts and strange happenings there will always be the likelyhood of a cover-up. This will without a doubt keep the mystery and history of roswell a part of ufo lore forever.
