Kecksburg – UFO Crash

The most well known and talked about of the ufo cases is ofcourse the incident at Roswell , but the second most talked about event has to be the very mysterious crash that happened in Kecksburgh , Pennsylvania on December 5, 1965. This has been one of the more talked about cases in ufology since it happened and continues to this day to be one of the leading events. The event was reported by many witnesses from canada , michigan , ohio , and pennsylvania , of a object moving through the sky appearing to be a fireball but under some kind of intelligent control.

The first public report was made by Fances Kalp who phoned in a report to radio station WHJB in Greensburg at or about 6:30 pm. Kalp reported to the station that she saw an object that appeared to be on fire and crashing in a wooded area near her home in westmoreland county. She then left her home to investigate the crash and got within a reported mile and a half from the crash area. She then claimed to see an object that looked to be a ‘four pointed star’. John Murphy who was an employee at the radio station taking the report immediately called the report in to the pennsylvania state police department , then the state police contacted kalp to set a meeting place in kecksburg.

Murphy arrived at the site to interview Kalp and her kids which were along for the ride. While doing his interview the state police arrive on scene and begin to search the wooded area. Once the state police officers heading the case emerged from the woods Carl Metz and Paul Shipco , they were tight lipped and would not reveal any details or finding to murphy or kalp. The only information the officers would release was that they were going to contact the US Miliary and have them take over. Murphy very disturbed by the lack of information attempted to contact the state police office and was put in contact with captain Dussia , who informed him that he would have to visit the office personally for an official statement on the event. When Murphy arrived at the office the US Military was already on scene.

Ironically the official statement that Murphy recieved from the military personel at the state police office was that there was nothing found.
“The Pennsylvania State Police have made a thorough search of the woods. We are convinced that there is nothing whatsoever in the woods.”
Murphy having taken the kalp report and talking to state police at the crash scene was quick to dismiss the military report offered up. Murphy was sure that there was a cover up being put into place by the military but had no idea why and of what.

Murphy staying on scene to phone in reports back to his radio station hears a conversation between state police officers about a pulsating blue light at the crash scene. Office Metz along with militay officials plan to make a second visit to the crash site although reports were that there was nothing found. Murphy is granted permission to accompany the officers at the state police office but when arriving at the crash scene is turned away and not allowed to enter the wooded area and becomes a witness to the area being totally sealed off by the military. It was not long after that word of the crash has been passed along to local media and television stations and reporters began to arrive at the outskirts of the wooded area.

The state police and military officials onsite would soon become aware that they were not the first indivisuals to reach the crash scene in the woods. Ufo researcher Stan Gordon reported that several locals had been to the crash scene before anyone from the state police had arrived. They described to Gordon in interviews seeing a bronze-colored object that was approx 9-12 ft in length having a gold band surrounding it at the bottom. Reports made said that the object appeared to be ‘acorn’ shaped.

The US Military after finishing there on scene investigation at the crash site issued an official statement to the press of there version of what happened. The report stated that a meteorite had been responsible for the sighting of the fiery object seen in the sky and the crash in the woods of kecksburg. This statement even though riddled with mystery was accepted by the most part by the media and general public at the time. Atleast until a television show called “Unsolved Mysteries” aired a special on the Kecksburg crash which created a buzz and started new investigations on the crash.

John Murphy who was a major part of the keckburgh incident and one of the many who smelled a cover up and were intent on finding the truth came up with very little. Although after the death of Murphy his long time wife came foward to tell a rather shocking story. She claimed that murphy was one of the first people to make it to the crash site and view the object and had actually taken photographs. The photograph taken by murphy was confiscated by the military and murphy was warned not to talk about the crash or any details of the incident. And should he go against this warning and reveal any information he would be in for severe consequences. Project ‘Blue Book’ a government based body essembled to investigate ufo cases confirms in a report that there in fact was a photograph of the object that crashed in kecksburg but fail to link it to any source. This leaves many many question as to what really happened and what actually crashed in the wooded area in kecksburg.

The mysterious facts and extremely likely military cover up leave ufology experts and fanatics with alot more questions than answers which is sure to keep this case alive and investigated for years and years to come. Will we ever really know what crashed in kecksburg , hopefully the search yields more answers then they have to date.
