Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing are reported to have confirmed that they filmed a UFO during the eclipse for 40 minutes. They say that they will spend the next 12 months studying the footage before drawing any conclusions.

The director of the observatory, Ji Hai-sheng, told sina.com that scientists would not be speculating publicly on the nature of what was captured on film until it had been properly studied.

He added:”‘Purple Mountain Observatory and Chinese Academy of Sciences said that during the July 22 total solar eclipse observation, China had discovered near the sun, by observing staff, an unidentified object, it’s physical nature remains to be further studied.

“Currently manpower is being organized to deal with this data, complete the data analysis and reveal the scientific results and this will take at least one year’s time to finalise.”

The incident follows a series of UFO sightings in China which culminated in an object being captured on film by students in Deqing. The footage, which was featured on Chinese television, appears to show the object repeatedly changing shape after initially appearing as a glowing blue sphere.

A number of UFO sightings may have been caused by a secret US spy plane called Aurora, the existence of which has never been officially admitted, according to files released on Monday.

More than 70 witnesses including police and military personnel reported sightings in Devon, Cornwall, South Wales and Shropshire in the early hours of Wednesday March 31, 1993, with many describing a large, low-flying object which made a low humming sound.

In a briefing note to the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (ACAS), Sir Anthony Bagnall, the head of the Ministry of Defence’s UFO desk wrote that there was evidence of an unidentified craft evading UK defences.

He said he would not normally concern Sir Anthony with UFO sightings but continued: “You may wish to be aware of a recent particularly unusual incidence of UFO sightings over Britain, involving descriptions that match some of the reported characterisations of the so-called ‘Aurora’.”

The Aurora was the name given to an unmanned US reconnaissance aircraft supposedly developed in secret “black” programmes in the 1980s and alleged to be capable of hypersonic flight.

The plane was the subject of much speculation at the time and the British Government was forced to deny allowing experimental flights over the UK.

In his message, dated April 22, the head of the UFO desk wrote: “Some of the reports state that the object was moving at a very high speed, while some say that it was hovering or moving very slowly.

“Many of the reports refer to the object being very large, flying low and making a humming sound.

“My staff have spoken to a number of the military and police witnesses, many of whom commented that the object was unlike anything they had ever seen before.”

The note continued: “In summary, there would seem to be some evidence on this occasion that an unidentified object (or objects) of unknown origin was operating over the UK.

“If there has been some activity of US origins which is known to a limited circle in MoD and is not being acknowledged it is difficult to investigate further.”

A response from Sir Anthony came back stating: “In spite of the quantity of the many witnesses who reported the unusual sightings on March 31, I can add nothing to the debate.”

The head of the UFO desk was later urged to drop the subject.

He wrote a further briefing note on May 7 saying that he had been contacted by the British UFO Research Association (Bufora) who told him the sightings coincided with the re-entry of a Russian rocket into the Earth’s atmosphere.

He said although the re-entry might explain some of the high altitude sightings it failed to explain lower level sightings or the low hum.

He added a handwritten note to the top of the page in which he said: “As you will see, we may have an explanation for some ? but certainly not all ? of the recent UFO sightings.”

The letter was returned with another handwritten note scrawled at the top which stated: “Thank you. I suggest you now drop this subject.”

The month before the incident the head of the UFO desk wrote to the US ambassador in London about mounting speculation over the Aurora project.

He wrote: “Continuing questions of this nature cause us some concern and our Secretary of State has been advised that I would be contacting the United States authorities in order to restate the MoD position and to seek confirmation that if any such unusual aircraft activity were to be envisaged by the United States Government which would in any way affect the United Kingdom, the United States Government would approach the Ministry of Defence to seek prior agreement.”

The sightings on March 31 included several from RAF Cosford near Wolverhampton where police reported seeing two bright lights “flying at great velocity” above the airfield.

There was no engine noise and the lights made a slight red glow from the rear as they disappeared over the horizon.

According to a Met officer at RAF Shawbury the lights were travelling “erratically at hundreds of miles per hour unlike any aircraft” and “appeared to be searching for something”.

The officer, who also heard a low humming noise, said he had never seen anything like it before.

An amateur photographer from Westbury has taken what he describes as ?a shot in a million? of a UFO seemingly tracking an RAF plane.

The 56 year-old, from The Butts, Westbury, who wishes to remain anonymous, took this photograph at about 3.45pm on July 22 while in his garden looking towards the Westbury White Horse.

The image shows a Hercules from RAF Lyneham being trailed by a mysterious shape in the background.

The photographer said: ?I don?t believe in things from outer space ? I think that kind of thing is ludicrous ? but that thing was definitely tracking the plane.

?My neighbour was in the garden at the time and I wanted to shout to them, but I didn?t want to say ?there?s a flying saucer in the sky? so I didn?t say anything in the end.

?I thought at the time this is too good to be true and I didn?t think it would come out as good as it has. If I was to say it was a shot in a million I don?t think I?d be exaggerating.

?To be honest I find it extremely embarrassing that I?ve taken this photo but it should be in the public forum for people to discuss.

?I?m just desperately curious to find out what it is.

?Since I?ve taken the photo I?ve been on some UFO websites and there?s nothing remotely like this photo with an RAF plane being tracked.

?I rang the RAF to tell them what I had seen but all I got was cynicism, which is understandable.?

An MoD spokesman said: ?The MoD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity. Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported.?

The Russian navy has declassified its records of encounters with unidentified objects technologically surpassing anything humanity ever built, reports Svobodnaya Pressa news website.

The records dating back to soviet times were compiled by a special navy group collecting reports of unexplained incidents delivered by submarines and military ships. The group was headed by deputy Navy commander Admiral Nikolay Smirnov, and the documents reveal numerous cases of possible UFO encounters, the website says.

Vladimir Azhazha, former navy officer and a famous Russian UFO researcher, says the materials are of great value.

?Fifty percent of UFO encounters are connected with oceans. Fifteen more ? with lakes. So UFOs tend to stick to the water,? he said.

On one occasion a nuclear submarine, which was on a combat mission in the Pacific Ocean, detected six unknown objects. After the crew failed to leave behind their pursuers by maneuvering, the captain ordered to surface. The objects followed suit, took to the air, and flew away.

Many mysterious events happened in the region of Bermuda Triangle, recalls retired submarine commander Rear Admiral Yury Beketov. Instruments malfunctioned with no apparent reason or detected strong interference. The former navy officer says this could be deliberate disruption by UFOs.

?On several occasions the instruments gave reading of material objects moving at incredible speed. Calculations showed speeds of about 230 knots, of 400 kph. Speeding so fast is a challenge even on the surface. But water resistance is much higher. It was like the objects defied the laws of physics. There?s only one explanation: the creatures who built them far surpass us in development,? Beketov said.

Navy intelligence veteran, Captain 1st rank Igor Barklay comments:

?Ocean UFOs often show up wherever our or NATO?s fleets concentrate. Near Bahamas, Bermudas, Puerto Rico. They are most often seen in the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southern part of the Bermuda Triangle, and also in the Caribbean Sea.?

Another place where people often report UFO encounters is Russia?s Lake Baikal, the deepest fresh water body in the world. Fishermen tell of powerful lights coming from the deep and objects flying up from the water.

In one case in 1982 a group of military divers training at Baikal spotted a group of humanoid creatures dressed in silvery suits. The encounter happened at a depth of 50 meters, and the divers tried to catch the strangers. Three of the seven men died, while four others were severely injured.

?I think about underwater bases and say: why not? Nothing should be discarded,? says Vladimir Azhazha. ?Skepticism is the easiest way: believe nothing, do nothing. People rarely visit great depths. So it?s very important to analyze what they encounter there.?

Meanwhile Russian Navy officials have denied the collection of UFO-related encounters exists. A source in the Navy?s service staff said the story may have its roots in the reports of vessel commanders, which describe locating objects of unclear but Earthly origin.

?An illusion of a UFO encounter can result from large fish shoals, floating garbage or natural phenomena,? ITAR-TASS news agency cites the source.

Some UFO footage from Kumburgaz, Turkey as once again appeared. This is fairly good video footage that shows a very strange looking object. This looks alot like the same wing-shaped UFO that was filmed about a year ago in the same area of Turkey. The UFO seems to be just hovering at a high altitude and the filmer simply zooms in and out on it. In the original film from a year ago some people pointed out what looked to be occupants within the UFO itself. Here is the most recent video !
