The 40th anniversary of the International UFO Symposium will be held in Denver at the Marriott Denver Tech Center from August 6th – 9th. The symposium is an annual gathering of some of the top speakers in their respective fields presenting evidence and research concerning new UFO sightings in the U.S. and Canada, the scientific search for extraterrestrial life, UFO photo analysis, and why we still struggle with full disclosure on this highly controversial subject.

The upcoming four day symposium will feature a dozen speakers including: Physicist Stanton Friedman – Pseudoscience of Anti-Ufology; Dr. Kevin Randle, Roswell researcher and author – Moving Ufology into a Scientific Arena; Ted Philips – UFO Trace/Landing Events; Dr. Bruce Maccabee – UFO Photo Investigations; and Peter Robbins – Roadblocks to Full UFO Disclosure.

The first day of the symposium, Thursday, August 6th, will provide workshops on UFO field investigator training. A press conference is scheduled at the Marriott Tech Center for Friday, August 7th from 11am – 11:30am in the Aspen Room. The theme will be UFO sightings over Colorado for the past years.

MUFON continues to provide the best evidence for Unconventional Flying Objects. These respected speakers will provide well researched information on the scientific study of UFOs that will help you to decide for yourself.

MUFON is a Colorado-based international non-profit organization whose mission is the systematic collection and analysis of UFO data with the ultimate goal of learning the origin and nature of the UFO phenomena.

For years, Britain’s biggest UFO mystery had been kept under wraps, but now an Air Force official has admitted that an ‘extra-terrestrial’ craft did visit the air base at Rendlesham Forest in 1980.

Former Deputy Base Commander Col Charles Halt claimed that even though the incident was later covered up, ‘extra-terrestrials’ had been the cause of the close encounter in Suffolk.

Halt had led a group of airmen who reported seeing a triangular UFO taking off into the air, leaving traces of radiation behind.

‘The UFOs I saw were structured machines moving under intelligent control and operating beyond the realm of anything I have ever seen before or since,’ the Daily Star quoted Col Halt, now retired, as telling investigator Gary Heseltine.

‘I believe the objects that I saw at close quarters were extra-terrestrial in origin,’ he said.

He added that the Air Force later issued ‘disinformation’ to throw the public off the scent.

His comments were hailed as ’sensational’ by former Ministry of Defence UFO investigator Nick Pope.

‘This may help us to finally solve Britain’s biggest UFO mystery,’ Pope said, adding, ‘It blows the MoD’s line that these events had ‘no defence significance’ out of the water.’

The world’s largest UFO archive, with over 18,000 Swedish reports, pictures and foreign reports over mysterious happenings was opened to the general public in Norrkoping in eastern Sweden on Sunday.

“There was a great interest,” said Clas Svahn at UFO Sweden.

A Swedish pilot in a Draken plane was flying over Sm?land in a training exercise in the 1970s. He received the order to break the exercise and fly towards an unidentified object lying still on the water.

As he approached the object suddenly shoots straight up – and the pilot takes up the chase. Despite full speed the pilot soon loses the object and it is never identified.

The event which confounded the pilot, is just one of the reports recorded in the world’s largest UFO archive in Norrk?ping in southern Sweden. It is one of up to 1,000 reports worth taking a closer look at, according to Clas Svahn.

The Swedish UFO association held a series of lectures on Saturday in connection with the temporary opening of the archive.

“175 came to listen and there was a great interest. There were more than we have seen in recent years and there was a serious interest. We are very happy,” he said.

There were then around 70 people in Norrk?ping for the opening of the archive on Sunday.

The archive is now closed once more, as the association works on a voluntary basis and does not have the time to do more than show the archive to, for example, researchers.

“One can come and have a look but in that case you have to arrange an appointment.”

In response to the question over whether he believes in the existence of UFOs, Svahn answered:

“I am completely convinced that there is life in space. If life can exist here then it can exist elsewhere. But can they travel here? There is no conclusive evidence, but I do not want to answer for certain. There are mysterious phenomena that we can not identify, and they are not only optical illusions,” Clas Svahn said.

AZTEC ? It began in 1998 as a newly hired librarian’s fundraising idea, and it has grown into an internationally respected UFO conference.

Katee McClure, the event planner for the 12th Annual Aztec UFO Symposium this weekend, said she expects more than 300 people to attend the two-day conference. Many are coming from out of state, some from across the country.

The symposium didn’t always have such worldwide fanfare. Only about 50 people attended the first conference in 1998, event founder Leanne Hathcock said.

Hathcock, the Aztec Public Library’s director, was a recently hired librarian

12 years ago charged with organizing a fundraiser. She’d read a few books about a supposed 1948 UFO crash northwest of Aztec, and people constantly came into the library seeking information about the wreckage. The rumor obviously was of public interest.

She decided a UFO conference in Aztec would be a good way to raise money for the library’s projects. Little did she know her idea would spark immediate interest from around the globe.

Soon after Hathcock posted information online about her conference idea, she received calls from places such as New York City and South Africa. Newspapers, magazines and television stations inundated her with requests for information.

Although only 50 people showed up in 1998, Hathcock had stumbled on a sleeping giant.

“It wasn’t big at all. But the interest was big,” Hathcock said.

The symposium has grown almost every year since its inception. It has featured world-famous speakers and lured television crews from Japan, National Geographic and the History Channel, among others.

“We have probably gotten all the speakers that anyone has ever seen on television,” McClure said. “There’s always a bunch of people that are interviewed on (UFO documentaries), and we’ve had them all.”

The speakers for this year’s event are Durango resident Niara Isley, an extraterrestrial researcher; Norio Hayakawa, a UFO researcher and activist; Victoria Liljenquist, a documentary filmmaker; David Hatcher Childress, an author and archaeologist; and Michael Salla, a scholar in international politics, conflict resolution and U.S. foreign policy.

The speakers will take the stage, in the order listed above, between 9 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday. A panel of Four Corners residents will speak at 5:30 p.m. about their personal brushes with UFOs and other paranormal phenomenon.

A meet-and-greet dinner for attendees is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday to kick off the weekend. Tours of the alleged crash site, about 12 miles northwest of Aztec, are scheduled for 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.

Other activities this weekend include an art contest and a vendor area, featuring items such as event memorabilia, collectibles, quilts, DVDs and books. No fee is required for entrance into the vendor area.

Police officers, firefighters, military personnel and emergency medical technicians are admitted to the symposium free, but must pay $10 for Friday’s dinner.

The Aztec UFO Symposium is respected as an intellectual discussion regarding the existence of extraterrestrials, and it’s not grounded in sensationalism, Hathcock said.

“It’s a credible, serious discussion by credible people trying to find real answers,” Hathcock said.

All proceeds benefit the Aztec Public Library. McClure said the Friends of the Aztec Library, the organization in charge of the symposium, typically clears about $6,000 in proceeds each year. Most of the money will go toward the library’s new digital arts project and community events.
