Brothers Sam and Davis Williams of Kirkwood, Mo., were vacationing with their family at a rental property in the 6600 block of West Beach Drive. They say they spotted a lighted object over the water around dusk on July 28. The brothers were standing at different locations on the beach at the time, according to their mother, Wendy Williams, but their accounts were similar.

Sam Williams, 18, said the object had a single row of colored lights down its side. Davis Williams, 16, said the lights were red, white and blue. They said the object hovered and maneuvered for less than a minute, clearly visible in the twilight.

?It was horizontal, and then it was kind of vertical and then, just like that, it was gone,? said Sam Williams. ?I never saw anything like it before.?

The family did not report the event, Wendy Williams said Tuesday, but searched the Internet in vain for any accounts of sightings in the Oak Island area.

No reports of unusual lights or sightings were phoned into the Oak Island police station, according to officers, and no sightings were reported at the Oak Island Coast Guard station.
